Rachel McAdams was honored for Spotlight at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival

Spotlight is gearing up for the Oscars later this month, and for good reason. The film has already won various awards and honors, and Rachel McAdams was nominated for a Critic’s Choice Award. She is also nominated for an Oscar, for those keeping track. None of this, of course, has really anything to do with her work in True Detective.

Although Rachel McAdams was indeed nominated for True Detective as Ani Bezzerides at the Critic’s Choice Awards, she lost that one as well. Fortunately her other production, Spotlight, is rolling in accolades. The Santa Barbra International Film Festival honored the cast of Spotlight for their work on the widely acclaimed film.

The Daily Mail has the details, though they are more pre-occupied with what McAdams wore than the actual honor. Such is life. Spotlight could present McAdams with a major turning point in her career as it is the first time that she has been nominated for an Academy Award. That’s kind of a big deal, even if some viewers and critics downplay the award’s importance.

Yes, it is a popularity contest, but it can also open the door to larger roles and more acclaim. True Detective hasn’t won a single award this season, which is within expectations considering that it was nominated for almost none.

Next: The actual True Detective soundtrack exists, but it's hiding.

At least Rachel McAdams might get something out of this award season even if it doesn’t end up being for True Detective. Anything she gets for Spotlight would be very well deserved indeed.
