Lera Lynn Wrote Her New Song While Working on True Detective
Lera Lynn has new music in the pipeline, and some of it grew from True Detective.
Lera Lynn became the part of True Detective season two that most people would agree actually worked. Our poll showed as much, and others have come out of the woodwork to talk about Lynn as well. Her role as the unnamed performer at the bar frequented by Ray and Frank, Lynn’s presence created an ominous atmosphere that perfectly gelled with the season’s dark tones.

Outside of True Detective Lera Lynn has a career in her own right, and even performs songs from the series from time to time. She recently talked to Rolling Stone about her new album, Resistor, and how a new song was written during her time with True Detective:
"“I started writing ‘Shape Shifter’ while working on True Detective, as a way to find some balance to the gloom and doom…I’m not sure how to relate the song to the rest of Resistor, because it’s so different from the other songs.”"
The need to escape the crushing dark atmosphere of True Detective season two is understandable. “Shape Shifter,” which can be streamed over at Rolling Stone, isn’t an escape from darkness so much as it is just not a ballad.

While working on the music of True Detective with T. Bone Burnett, Lera Lynn experienced some of that famous True Detective secrecy that David Morse has been talking about. Although it hasn’t been expressly stated that Lera Lynn won’t appear in a future season of True Detective, Nic Pizzzolatto isn’t one to repeat the same trick.
