Julia Louis-Dreyfus Will Produce a New Miniseries for HBO
Julia Louis-Dreyfus will produce Soldier Girls, a new miniseries for HBO.
Hot off the heels of Veep’s fifth season, it looks like Julia Louis-Dreyfus has another project in the pipeline. This one, however, she won’t be starring in. It speaks well of the working relationship between HBO and Dreyfus that they will soon have multiple projects together.
According to a report over at Deadline, Julia Louis-Dreyfus will be producing a new miniseries for HBO, Solider Girls. Apparently the project has already begun production, so we could end up seeing it early next year or even later this year. Soldier Girls is based on the 2014 book by Helen Thorpe, Solider Girls: The Battle of Three Women at Home and at War.

The miniseries will follow three women as they join the National Guard and become friends. Unless there is a major tonal shift between the source material and the miniseries, this will stray far from Dreyfus’ comedic routes. It’s not surprising, then, that she won’t actually be acting in it.
The project is being headed by Nicole Riegel, who is a former solider and writer for NBC’s The Blacklist. There are no other details to share concerning Soldier Girls at the moment, but that shouldn’t remain true for too long concerning that it’s already in production. There also isn’t any information regarding casting.
Next: Veep's fifth season is in the can.
HBO is no stranger to stories about the military or armed forces, and they’re certainly not strangers to adapting non-fiction stories. While we wait for more information about Solider Girls, we will at least have both Game of Thrones and Veep to tide us over.
