This Week in True Detective: American Crime Edition
This Week in True Detective brings the best of True Detective news from the past week.
This past week didn’t feature much movement in the True Detective world. Many of the True Detective actors are involved in other projects, some of which will release this year. So without further ado, let’s get right to it.
We don’t always feature fan content in this weekly rundown — it usually has to be something special to be able to grab a spot in This Week in True Detective. A fan went ahead and swapped the intro music to True Detective and True Blood. A simple thing, sure, but the effect is surprising.

J.K Rowling posted a series of articles detailing the history of wizards in North America. The purpose of this, of course, is to prepare viewers for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them which will star Colin Farrell. Speaking of other future projects, Rachel McAdams will be moving directly from Spotlight to Doctor Strange. Quite a jump, that.
Woody Harrelson will be joining Frances McDormand and Sam Rockwell in a new movie from the director of In Bruges. Matthew McConaughey’s Free State of Jones has been delayed, though there is a new trailer for his animated film, Kubo and the Two Strings. Cary Fukunaga also has something new in the oven, though he is only the executive producer. This has been your “what’s everyone up to?” update.
Finally, we took a critical look at the success of American Crime Story and what, if anything, True Detective could learn from it. The two are very different shows, though the space that American Crime Story is currently occupying is not unlike True Detective’s first season. Would True Detective be able to gain that back if it stuck more closely to true crime?
Next: A new movie produces by Cary Fukunaga will be premiere at Tribeca.
