This Week in True Detective: The State of Season Three Edition
This Week in True Detective brings the best of True Detective news from the past week.
This past week was another good one for Cary Fukunaga, though all is still silent on the True Detective front. That doesn’t mean we couldn’t imagine what the future would be like, and that’s exactly what we did. Also, fans of Matthew McConaughey’s Lincoln commercials got some good news this week. This is assuming that it’s possible to truly be fans of an advertising campaign.
First up we discussed how different True Detective season three should actually be and if it should take some points from Spotlight. True Detective doesn’t always have to be about “hard men and women.” We also wondered if HBO will continue to take risks on actors considering season two’s reception.
More from HBO
- HBO expects House of the Dragon season 2 release in summer 2024
- HBO delays three hit shows to 2025 but one big show is still coming in 2024
- Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty will end its run on HBO
- Winning Time season 2, episode 7 recap: “What Is and What Should Never Be”
- Winning Time season 2, episode 6 recap: “Beat L.A.”
Continuing with season three, it doesn’t actually have to be Nic Pizzolatto’s next project. His deal with HBO doesn’t stipulate that True Detective has to be put first. Also, don’t expect to see season three this summer. Not to be a buzzkill or anything.
Moving on to Cary Fukunaga, his new series was recently picked up by Netflix. Fukunaga has two shows coming up, and neither one is going to HBO. He could always end up back with True Detective, though you shouldn’t bet on it.
Taylor Kitsch will write, direct, and star in his own movie based on a short film he put together back in 2014. Finally, Matthew McConaughey will continue to remain the exclusive property of Lincoln for the foreseeable future. So, yeah, good news for car commercials.
Next: The Dark Tower is the only Matthew McConaughey film of 2017 so far.
As always, we’ll be available on Facebook and Twitter throughout the weekend. Don’t be shy!
