This Week in True Detective: The April Fool Edition

This Week in True Detective brings the best of True Detective news from the past week.

It’s currently April 2nd. Hopefully your April Fool’s Day was filled with delightful surprises and not frustrating hoaxes, though sometime the two are interchangeable. The internet is a dangerous place on April first, and even though none of This Week in True Detective has anything directly to do with the “holiday,” some of the news items do embody its weird spirit.

First off, Colin Farrell was once shortlisted to start in a Batman vs. Superman movie that never happened. This was over yen years ago and it wouldn’t be all that difficult to imagine what such a movie would look like considering the state of superhero movies at the time. In other odd Colin Farrell news, he once turned down a job with Terry Gilliam. To be fair, that particular movie, The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, has never been made.

More from HBO

We saw new images from Vince Vaughn’s quickly approaching Term Life and Ethan Hawke spoke briefly (super briefly) about The Magnificent Seven, which is based on a screenplay originally by Nic Pizzolatto. Speaking of Nic Pizzolatto, we wondered if he will agree to do much press for season three considering his rocky relationship with them. Also, with no projects on the horizon, Pizzolatto could easily spend the rest of the year working in private.

Considering what went down with season two, it’s possible that season three will have some difficulty attracting the same caliber of talent as the first two. On the Cary Fukunaga front, the director said the lack of Netflix awareness potentially hurt his Oscar chances. The showrunner for Mr. Robot will take over all episodes of that show’s second season much like Fukunaga did with the first season True Detective.

Finally, the Daredevil intro got a True Detective makeover from a creative fan.

Next: Watch the Daredevil intro in True Detective style.

As per usual, we can be reached on Facebook and Twitter this weekend to chase about True Detective or The Path if you’ve seen it.
