Colin Farrell Once Turned Down Terry Gilliam

Colin Farrell had the chance to star in Terry Gilliam’s The Man Who Killed Don Quixote.

Colin will star in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them later this year, but a lot of information about his past roles has been coming out recently. Apparently Colin Farrell was shortlisted to star in a Batman vs. Superman movie that never happened, and he also could have started in Terry Gilliam’s The Man Who Killed Don Quixote.

For those unfamiliar with the project, Terry Gilliam has been trying to film his passion project, The Man Who Killed Done Quixote, for twenty years. The disastrous attempt at bringing his vision to life was filmed and released as a must-see documentary, Lost in La Mancha. Double that recommendation if you want to just see everything go wrong.  Around that time Colin Farrell was approached to star in the film, but he turned the famous arthouse director down.

We don’t know why Colin Farrell didn’t want to be in The Man Who Killed Don Quixote — the movie still doesn’t exist — but it’s possible at the time that Farrell wanted his career to go in a different direction. Other actors that have been attached to star have included Johnny Depp (who is in the documentary) and Ewan McGregor.

The Colin Farrell of today, the one who likes to take different and challenging roles, may have been interested in this sort of project. The Farrell of 2000, however, wasn’t having any of it. According to The Den of Geek, The Man Who Killed Don Quixote is actually moving forward, but it will be without Colin Farrell.
