Nic Pizzolatto May Not do Any Press for True Detective Season Three

Nico Pizzolatto’s rocky relationship with the press may spell radio silence for season three.

Nic Pizzolatto isn’t the sort of social showrunner that Fargo’s Noah Hawley is. He does not exactly like doing interviews, and his relationship with the press in general has been poor. He’s a private man who would just rather be left alone, and there is nothing inherently wrong with that. He has, however, been hostile to the press in the past.

We haven’t heard from Nic Pizzolatto in months. Everything we know about him is relayed through other sources — not the man himself. It therefore wouldn’t be any sort of stretch to imagine a future in which Pizzolatto steps out of the spotlight entirely and refuses press interviews altogether. That wouldn’t actually be considered a worst-case scenario.

True Detective doesn’t need Pizzolatto to back it up. In fact, he is rarely ever the focus of interviews on the True Detective home releases. Though it would be too much to expect Pizzolatto to forgo all interviews leading up to True Detective season three, he may only participate in a select few. There’s no reason to think that he will allow press on the set of season three considering he barred them from season two’s.

Pizzolatto is slowly becoming just another background character in the makeup of True Detective. While that could be considered sad or a missed opportunity from a certain light, it is obviously what he wants. More likely than not, most fans would want to hear from the cast rather than the showrunner, even if he is the writer and creator.

Pizzolatto’s absence during season three would be understandable, and is something the press may actually prefer at this point.
