A fan takes the True Detective spoof to the next level by tackling current politics.

There is something about the True Detective spoof that is practically timeless. The serious tone of the first season, and the relationship between Rust and Marty, have proven ripe for spoofs. We’ve seen some creative ones in the past, such as a True Detective Christmas, but this one just might take the cake.

A fan and YouTube user Lemonade Stand, put together a True Detective spoof that takes aim at the upcoming election. It is one of the strongest spoofs we have seen so far, and that’s something we end up saying a lot — the bar just keeps getting raised. Enough talk. Watch:

So, yeah, President Obama enlists Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders to save America. It takes shots at all candidates, so there is something to like here regardless of your politics. There is definitely something funny about watching a Bernie Sanders character run around trying to save America from Donald Trump.

It also helps that the production values are fairly high for this sort of project. It’s also the perfect length; political spoofs frequently don’t know when to stop. For working on multiple levels, this True Detective spoof might be our favorite one so far. What that really means is that it’s our favorite one until our next favorite pops up.

While it would be hilarious to see multiple installments of this, perhaps that would cause it to overstay its welcome. As it stands, “True Detective: Election Season” is the current king of the True Detective spoof. And we wouldn’t have it any other way.
