HBO Promotes Executive Responsible for Veep
HBO announced two major promotions recently, and one of them involves the Exec who oversaw the development of Veep.
For better or worse, almost every personnel move that HBO makes becomes a public affair. Sometimes they aren’t moves that the average viewer would care about, but every once in a while they involve someone a tad more interesting. That’s where Amy Gravitt comes in, a programming executive responsible for overseeing some of the best shows currently on HBO.
Variety is reporting that two programming executives with HBO have been promoted, at that includes Gravitt.
Gravitt has an impressive resume that includes Silicon Valley, Veep, and Eastbound & Down. Although she isn’t involved with it, the team behind Eastbound & Down has a new series coming next summer. Gravitt will also be involved with Sarah Jessica Parker’s upcoming HBO project, Divorce. That list involves some of the best comedies that HBO has ever produced, both past and present.

- Lawmen: Bass Reeves season 1, episode 7 preview: Non-spoiler thoughts for Part VII
- Goosebumps season 1, episode 6 recap: “Night of the Living Dummy”
- Beacon 23 season 1, episode 3 recap: “Why Can’t We Go on as Three?”
- Upload season 3, episode 2 recap: “Strawberry”
It’s always interesting when someone involved with projects like that rises further in a company. That could help pave the way for series of the caliber, though it doesn’t say much for shows like Togetherness or Looking, which were quite different from the above list. To be fair, they weren’t exactly comedies either. Not in the strictest sense, anyway.
Amy Gravitt isn’t the only promotion that HBO announced — also getting a boost is Nina Rosenstein. Rosenstein has been responsible for more news oriented shows, like Last Week Tonight with John Oliver and Real Time with Bill Maher. Also an impressive list in its own right.
Both Gravitt and Rosenstein will be Executive Vice Presidents of Programming, though focusing on different areas. Considering that Veep is currently the best comedy that HBO has on offer and has pulled in a respectable amount of awards, it’s high-time for a promotion.
Next: All The Way had its New York premiere last night.
HBO may not know what to do with Vinyl, but its news and comedy programming has been on point lately. It’s a shame, however, that it hasn’t given slower shows like Togetherness time to grow.
