Game of Thrones Experiences Ratings Low for the Season

The new episode of Game of Thrones dived in the ratings during Memorial Day weekend.

Game of Thrones delivered another strong episode (for the most part) in the form of “Blood of my Blood” on Sunday, but not everyone was around to catch it. Game of Thrones is usually appointment-viewing in an era when such a thing isn’t necessary. To not be caught up on Game of Thrones, however, means not being caught up on a major piece of pop culture. It’s a big deal.

Not on Memorial Day weekend, it seems. Game of Thrones took a dive on Sunday night according to TV by the Numbers, but it still proved to be the top show of the night. It’s more a good news, bad news situation. “Blood of my Blood” dropped a few points from the previous week, but nothing major. It was a season low, but the show will definitely jump back up next week.

More from Show Snob

The dip most likely came from Memorial Day weekend itself, though there is also an outside possibility that some were too traumatized by all of the “hold the door!” yelling. Personally, the latter reason would be more inserting. Considering that it has never been easier for Game of Thrones fans (and active HBO subscribers) to watch the show, it’s still impressive that it rakes in such high numbers week to week.

A holiday weekend is usually unkind to television, though it was especially unkind to Game of Thrones. According to the same article, other Sunday night shows were more even, including both Veep and Silicon Valley.

There’s really no reason to think that the season won’t bounce back next week, but if it doesn’t we will officially label this as “Hodor’s curse.”
