Is Dorne Back in Game of Thrones?
Everyone’s favorite locale in Game of Thrones might be back
It’s wise to get this out-of-the-way: Game of Thrones has no idea what to do with Dorne. That was unfortunately proven over the course of the fifth season, in a misguided infiltration mission by Jamie and Bronn. Season six was bookended by scenes of Dorne, the first leading us to believe that it was all over and done with. The prince and his son were assassination. Done, and done.
But not so fast. The Queen of Thorns made a pact with Dorne and Varys in the final episode. Watching Lady Olenna bring her special brand of sass to Sunspear was a true pleasure, but what does it mean for the future?

Without specifically spoiling anything, Dorne in the books is a much more interesting place. “The Winds of Winter” reminded viewers that the place actually still exists, even if most viewers would rather forget about it. Just because Game of Thrones has made it clear that Dorne is back in the big fight doesn’t mean that it will actually play a large role in season seven.
Dorne has pledged its support to Daenerys, and all that really requires is a number of ships. That’s a smart decision on Game of Thrones‘ part; not pretend that a major area doesn’t exist, but limit its interaction. We not ever see Dorne again, but that doesn’t exclude them from having a say in how it will all shake out.

And that’s a say that they deserve. Dorne was one of the few places to resist the original Targarean invasion, so they deserve a shot here. Not only that, by everyone knows at this point that Cersei has it coming. Dorne is only a small part of the makeup of Game of Thrones, which, at this point, is how it should be.
