Have lunch with Lena Dunham to celebrate Girls and fight autism

Girls is ending, folks. For some, that statement will mean very little. Girls was not a ratings monster, though its first two seasons did receive a fair amount of decision. It’s a wonder how the show escaped the fate of Looking, but here we are. Girls, like Sex and the City before it, will end after six seasons.

But you can be a part of it. Sort of.

HBO, Girls, and Lena Dunham have partnered up with NYCA (New York Collaborators for Autism) to send one fan and their friend to the set of Girls. It’s possible that this offer will appeal more to people who don’t live within the New York City area, but still, a day on the set, lunch with Dunham, and hotel accommodations are all on the table.

Each donation grants you a single entry, and it is for a good cause. We were ultimately pleased with the way Girls ended, though we were in the minority — many thought the past season was a high watermark for the series. Just because Girls is ending doesn’t mean that Lean Dunham’s relationship with HBO is; she is working on another series, titled Max.

Girls has been an uneven show, and maybe that’s built into its design. Following the lives of several 20-somethings is not easy. Not for them, and not for us. When looked at in that light, Girls is more honest because of its rocky-ness. That doesn’t mean that all of its choices have worked over the years — what was up with Patrick Wilson? — but the show owns them in ways that other shows don’t.

Next: Game of Thrones is delaying production.

For those that have loved Girls since the beginning, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity. And hey, donating to a good cause isn’t exactly a bad idea either.
