The Night Of’s Sofia Black-D’Elia is in the Dark

The woman behind Andrea is just as enthralled with The Night Of as we are

The Night Of is the reason to be watching HBO this summer. Sure, Vice Principals is good, but The Night Of is something special. Even the actors on the show are aware of that, as evidenced by a recent interview that Sofia Black-D’Elia did with HBO. For those unfamiliar, she plays Andrea, the woman who got Naz into this mess in the first place. Not to put all the responsibility on her, of course.

D’Elia was attracted to the series the moment she read the first script, and she knows as much about where the show is heading as the rest of us do:

"“…I did not want to know anything, so I asked [series creator] Steve [Zaillian] to tell me only what I absolutely needed to know to shoot the pilot and to shield me from the rest.”"

More from Show Snob

It’s understandable to want to stay as pure as possible, at last in terms of playing the part, but the restraint is downright impressive. How Naz is going to get out of his homicide charge, if he even is, is one of the best mysteries on TV right now. Even though Andrea is no longer on the show, the character casts a very long shadow.

Unless there is a flashback of some sort coming, Sofia Black-D’Elia, would have only been in a single episode of The Night Of, but what she’s been able to achieve in so little time is impressive. Andrea is an unforgettable character, and it’s also exciting to know that she also has no idea how this is all going to play out.

D’Elia also talks about filming that tense knife scene — which is how Naz ended up with literal blood on his hands. For those wondering about the inner workings of Andrea, this is your chance.
