HBO Gives a Sneak peak into Divorce
Watch a behind the scenes clip of HBO’s Divorce
There are a lot of great, new shows coming up at HBO — Westworld, anyone? — and one of them is Sarah Jessica Parker’s Divorce. True, Divorce is nothing at all like Westworld, and it might have trouble finding the right audience at first, but there is real reason to believe that it’s going to be a winner.
To get a little more hype going before its October premiere, HBO showed off a behind the scenes clip of the cast on Twitter:

- Lawmen: Bass Reeves season 1, episode 7 preview: Non-spoiler thoughts for Part VII
- Goosebumps season 1, episode 6 recap: “Night of the Living Dummy”
- Beacon 23 season 1, episode 3 recap: “Why Can’t We Go on as Three?”
- Upload season 3, episode 2 recap: “Strawberry”
Both Sarah Jessica Parker and Thomas Haden Church talk about the series with clips spliced in-between. Their actual divorce seems to mirror the stereotypical parent relationship, with Parker’s character being involved with the children on a deeper emotional level. For those interested in the wider cast, Molly Shannon , Talia Balsam, and Tracy Letts, also make short appearances.
Creator Sharon Horgan also shows up — she’ll look familiar to those with an Amazon Prime subscription as Sharon from Catastrophe. It’s going to be interesting to see how Divorce evolves and if HBO will even be willing to give it the to grow. Even if Divorce is a critical hit right out of the gate, it’s not the type of series that’s going to attract a wide audience immediately.
Next: Jim Broadbent heads to Westeros.
There is some precedent here to be worried that Divorce will be cut short before it’s able to reach its prime, as Girls is really the last comedy of this type that has been allowed to keep going. The worst thing that could happen to Divorce would be for it to premiere, not renewed, and then forgotten about. Actually, scratch that, what happened to Vinyl would be worse.
