When will Girls season 6 premiere?

Somehow, it feels that Girls has only recently hit its stride. It has spent five seasons tracking the lives of a close group of friends, but it is only recently that it feels like it has an actual trajectory in mind. Girls season 6 will be the final season and there are still so many questions to answer, though whether or not Girls is interested in answering them is another story entirely. When, then, will we come to an end of the story?

That question isn’t as difficult as the question of when Game of Thrones will come back, thankfully. Outside of its first season, Girls has reliably come on in the Winter, alternating between February and January. That’s fairly solid. Thanks to an instagram post from Girls’ showrunner and writer Jenni Konner, we know that the name of the first episode is “All I Ever Wanted.”

We also know that The Americans’ Matthew Rhys will be joining for a guest starring role, and also that some filming has been done in Florida. If Girls season 6 is going to keep in line with past seasons we can expect to be hearing from HBO about it soon, perhaps in October or November. HBO has new similar shows coming in October, such as Insecure, though it will likely be off the air when Girls season 6 makes its debut.

Girls never really got the credit that it deserved. Although it has at times been an uneven, sometimes even rough ride, there have been multiple performances worthy of recognition that been ignoredGirls season 6 might be able to score some award points simply because it’s the final season, but now we’re getting a bit ahead of ourselves.

Next: The Night of season two?

If the final season can continue the momentum from season 5, Girls is going to be in good shape. That certainly doesn’t extend to its character — not everyone is guaranteed a happy, content ending.
