When will we see Veep Season 6?

No, it’s not too soon to ask about Veep season 6

Over the course of five years, four of them headed by original creator Armando Iannucci, Veep has become one of the funniest shows on television. Not only that, it is also one of the finest political shows ever produced. It’s now a forgone conclusion that Julia Louis-Dreyfus will win an Emmy for her role as Selina Meyer. She’s won five times now, after all.

There’s not that much to report on the current state of Veep season 6, but that doesn’t mean things aren’t moving. According to an interview with TV Line with Tony Hale, season 6 will be “chaotic” and focus on Meyer’s life after losing the White House. It’s not going to be pretty.

At that point Hale hadn’t gotten a look at the first script yet, but that has probably changed by now. Though it’s worth pointing out that Veep isn’t exactly back in production just yet. HBO has plenty of new shows to fill the void until Veep season 6 premieres, including Divorce, Insecure, and the already-airing High Maintenance. But it’s not quite the same thing.

The past two seasons have had Veep air in the spring, though the first two seasons aired in June. Still, it’s a safe bet to say that we’ll see new episodes sometime in the spring. The new season will be under showrunner David Mandel — he won just won an Emmy for Best Comedy. Veep didn’t take any hits when it changed showrunners, so there’s no reason to worry about its future. Unless the series really goes off the rails, season 6 will be as great as we’ve come to expect.

For the first time in a while Veep will not be paired with Game of Thrones unless it goes back to as summer schedule. The series is strong enough that it doesn’t need to be paired with another heavy-hitter, but watching Game of Thrones and then Veep made for some fantastic Sundays.

Veep season 6 is expected to begin production within the next week, at which point it would be wise to keep an eye on the casts’ Twitter accounts for sneak peeks.
