There Could be The Night Of Season 2 in the Works
HBO’s Casey Bloys gets candid with the chances of The Night Of season 2.
The Night Of was a nice surprise for HBO even if it couldn’t match the sheer hysteria that True Detective created. It was initially billed as a one-off miniseries, but they may not be the case anymore. The producers behind the show, Steve Zaillian and Richard Price previously stated that they would need something big to motivate them into creating a second season, but HBO is hopeful for the show’s future.
In that same interview with Variety about Westworld, HBO’s Casey Bloys was also grilled about The Night Of. And he wants more:
"“Yes, absolutely…I think it’ll be a longer process, probably. Both of them take their time and will only do something they’re really passionate and excited about. They’re not going to do another season just to do another season.”"

That’s fair enough, but then Bloys drop a few hints that talks have already happened. Zaillian and Price are apparently “talking about it” they’re “trying to get themselves excited” about a story. They would also like John Turturro to return, though a new season would probably be unrelated to the first. The Night Of may not have taken off like True Detective, though it did perform well and it could be a show that HBO can rely on. No offense, True Detective fans.
This is all to say that it wouldn’t be wise to expect The Night Of season 2 anytime soon. But at least something is happening behind the scenes. The first season went meticulously into the development of a criminal case, so it’s understandable that such a format would take time to perfect. Not to mention the fact that a worthy story needs to appear first.

The Night Of isn’t over and done with at HBO, that’s the good news. It’s a good thing that Bloys is excited about it. Now we all just have to be patient. Very patient.
