Watch Lena Dunham, Jenni Konner, and Judd Apatow talk about the Girls Season Premiere

Basically everybody loves Riz Ahmed

It’s usual for HBO to post behind the scenes videos after new episodes for just about all of their series. Girls has been doing this for years, usually focusing on Lena Dunham or perhaps another actor if their character played a larger role in that specific episode. This time around, things are different. Because this is the final season of Girls, Lena Dunham is joined by both Jenni Konner and Judd Apatow. This makes for a more dynamic discussion that feels a bit like a roundtable, and that’s a good thing.

It’s basically still clips from the episode with Dunham doing most of the talking, but having Konner and Apatow add color commentary really spices up the old format. All three give their opinion on Hannah’s journey in ‘All I Ever Wanted,’ and how fun it was to send her own a super awkward vacation assignment. There is also agreement that Riz Ahmed was great in The Night Of, and Apatow jokingly states that Paul-Louis is basically the same person as The Night Of’s Naz.

They also touch on Elijah, Marnie and Desi, even though they only play minor roles in the episode. In terms of Marnie, Dunham and Konner agree that Marnie has a problem with infidelity, and that she can’t stay settled for too long. So it makes perfect sense that she would torpedo her new relationship with Ray and try to make it work with Desi, though we don’t really expect that to go anywhere.

Next: Marnie and Desi are going to try to work it out.

Hopefully we can expect future installments of Inside the Episode to be just as fresh and informative. This new format really works for Girls.
