PBS is going to take on one of the greatest tragedies in human history tonight with ‘The Great War.’
World War I was a global holocaust of epic proportions in which 17 million people were killed and 20 million more were wounded. Tonight PBS is taking on this massive piece of history in a special documentary series titled The Great War.

We’ve all seen countless World War II documentaries, but the stories behind World War I are much less well known. It’s easy to understand World War II, America was attacked and the Nazi ideology had to be defeated. World War I is much less black and white however, and PBS new documentary hopes to shed some light on this often misunderstood war.
The Great War starts tonight Monday April 10th and will unfold over six hours through the next three days. Six hours isn’t a lot of time to break down such a huge subject, but hopefully this incredible documentary opens people up to learning more about World War I.
If you’re looking for a documentary to make you feel comfortable or safe this isn’t it. There’s no denying that some of the parallels between the time of World War I and now are striking. You probably won’t feel as comfortable with patriotism after seeing what The Great War has to offer. You might however learn something valuable about the world’s history, and how things can spiral out of control and into such a holocaust.
