Archer Dreamland: ‘Berenice’ Review
Archer Dreamland is back and this time the private dick (PHRASING!) is asked to fake the death of Cheryl.
WARNING: This is another classic Show Snob recap. If you haven’t seen this episode, and you read this anyway, you will find out what happens. That’s how recaps work. We really shouldn’t have to explain this to people, but here we are. Anyway, you’ve been warned.
The last we saw of Archer he was sifting through the disheveled remnants of his ransacked office. Archer had lost the envelope of information on who might be Woodhouse’s killer when Cheryl arrived and asked him to kill her.

It turns out that Cheryl didn’t want Archer to kill her, but to fake her death. Cheryl wants to get away from her family which she describes as a 4 in being incestuous. Most of this episode is focused on Cheryl and Archer as she annoys him and they try to plant a dead maid in Cheryl’s place.
The set up is fun and there are some good jokes. The high point of the episode was seeing a footless Barry in the hospital being berated by Len Trexler. It looks like Krieger is more than just a bartender and will be fixing Barry up with some sort of new feet.
The thought of Krieger being a scientist again is exciting… and that’s the problem with Archer Dreamland. While it’s a fun enough show, seeing the characters just makes you want to see more Archer, real back in the office spy Archer.
Krieger in the lab, mother drinking in her office, Lana and Archer on adventures, Brent getting shot, Pam in human resources, accountant Cyril, and Cheryl eating rubber cement, these are the characters we want to see. The 1940’s doppelgangers of Archer Dreamland are fine, but they aren’t anywhere nearly as much fun as their original Archer counterparts.
So while Archer Dreamland is keeping us entertained, it’s also just making us miss the old glory days of Archer.
