Mystery Science Theater 3000 is back!

Mystery Science Theater 3000 is back with a new crew, but it hasn’t lost any of the weird and wonderful humor that made it great.

More from Show Snob

We’ve got movie sign! Mystery Science Theater 3000 is back and it’s just as wacky and wonderful as ever. This time it’s Jonah Ray in the jumpsuit and trapped on the space station, while Patton Oswalt and Felicia Day are back at the moonbase sending him terrible movies. There are fourteen episodes of the new MST3000 on Netflix right now. So if you want to binge you’ve got hours of time with Crow, Tom Servo, Jonah, and Gypsy in your future.

I was worried that MST3000 would try to get modern and maybe use too much modern tech, but that wasn’t something I had to worry about. The robots and sets are as low-tech and cheesy as ever. The one exception being that Tom Servo can now “fly” while in the theater. This comes off as a bit silly and I wouldn’t mind seeing it phased out.

Even the intro to the show has the same dorky and ridiculous feel as the original Mystery Science Theater 3000. The theme song has been edited a bit to fit the new version, but it’s still the same peppy melody drawing you in for a wonderfully weird time on Mystery Science Theater 3000.

It’s almost impossible to pull off a revival of a beloved franchise, especially one that’s loved by nerds. Star Trek has managed to do it repeatedly, but even the great granddaddy of science fiction has stumbled a few times. The new MST3000 however really has caught lightening in a bottle. The revival is indeed everything the original was.

Now if you’ll excuse me, WE’VE GOT MOVIE SIGN!
