‘Top Gear’ is still stalled out

As much as we want to fall back in love with ‘Top Gear’ the popular motor show just can’t seem to get out of first.

Top Gear just isn’t Top Gear anymore. I’ve given it time and it’s just not the same. We are now halfway through the second series of Top Gear without Jeremy Clarkson, James May, and Richard Hammond, and things are just not working.

More from Show Snob

Top Gear was a Porsche 911, but now it’s a Yugo that’s been painted racing red to try to hide the fact that it’s a Yugo. That’s probably unfair, it’s not that anything, in particular, is wrong with the current Top Gear. It’s miles better without Chris Evans and most of the new hosts are friendly and fun. Chris Harris is the only real problem left with cast personalities; perhaps they should avoid anyone named Chris in the future.

Matt LeBlanc is, of course, charming, but there’s still just something missing. We know LeBlanc is only on for two series, of which this is the second. We also know that he’s a big star. Although LeBlanc is obviously enjoying himself and having fun, there’s still something missing. Even when Clarkson, May, and Hammond were hating on each other and whatever task the producers had set out for them you knew they were living for what they were doing.

The lack of attitude directed the right way, the star power, everything looking so clean and new all the time. The new Top Gear has lost what made it great, it’s lost its soul. Everything seems forced and instead of the show about three car guys on crazy adventures we have the show about cars and a few guys trying to sell you that their adventures are crazy.

All good things must come to an end, and for me, this may be the end of Top Gear. Luckily a new season of The Grand Tour is coming to Amazon this year!
