Veep Recap Season 6 Episode 2: “Library”
After her dreams of another presidency were dashed in the season premiere, Selina sets her sights on another goal in “Library”.
Veep continues rebuilding their world now that the cast has splintered but this episode does move the show in the right direction now that Kent and Ben have reunited to work with Jonah.
Selina gets slighted at a gathering of former presidents when she is pushed out of the presidential photo in front of Air Force One and delegated to a photo shoot with the First Wives (and Husband). She does get to sit in President Hughes’ desk in his library which inspires her to demand her own presidential library.
Veep has committed to no one in Washington D.C. giving Selina any respect over her presidency considering it illegitimate for the length, the way she got elected, her gender, her general attitude, or maybe a mixture of all of the above. Unsurprisingly, Yale shoots down Selina’s offer to build a library at the University, luckily her undergrad school, Smith College is willing to house her new project.

Sadly, the library ends up falling through when Selina’s relationship finally hits rock bottom when it turns out that Andrew has been cheating on her with one of their employees. The affair is revealed after his texts messages are accidentally read aloud during a car ride to a fundraiser. Which leads to a hilarious altercation of Gary attacking Andrew and calling him “the devil”.
She, of course, fires the mistress who accuses Andrew of sexual misconduct and drags the entire Meyer name through the mud claiming to be a victim, not a perpetrator. With the women of Smith college protesting, Selina desperately attempts to “seduce” the dean of the university but ultimately ends up with no library and back at square one.
Despite losing Andrew (again), “Library,” continues to give Catherine and Marjorie more to do. Throughout the past couple of seasons, Catherine has taken on a more substantial role as a dutiful daughter and it’s nice to see that character development pay off.
Also, the budding couple has announced their plans to find a sperm donor so they can start their own family. Selina is appalled at the idea of being a grandmother but her scene with Marjorie comforting her is a sweet moment between the two.

Even though Selina has a good support group at home, she finally reaches out to Amy to chat after not a peep about her in “Omaha“. It’s still disheartening to see Anna Chlumsky stranded on her own in a storyline which seems pointless.
Her engagement to Buddy Calhoun is undoubtedly going to fall apart and she clearly feels frustrated running a campaign somewhere where her dirty political tactics are out-of-place. Here’s hoping that when this storyline crashes and burns, Amy will get another mic-drop speech similar to season four.
She isn’t the only one still stranded, Dan is suffering a similar consequence of his news job. While his appearances in “Library,” are limited, Veep at least checks in to show how unhappy he is as a co-anchor. Luckily, he’s back in D.C. on assignment just in time to ruin Jonah’s only successful date of the evening.
Kent and Ben set up the young congressman on four potential dates hoping he can find a suitor since single men in politics usually get excluded from things. Of course, Jonah’s first three dates flee before dessert while his final one ends up going home with Dan.
Veep has started out shakily with all of the cast spread out in different plotlines but “Library” ends with a lot of the core group headed back to Washington. With the return of Dan and the soon return of Amy, it will be interesting what the show has in store for viewers as the endgame for the season.
