Marvel’s The Defenders clip teases a character’s return

Daredevil fans can rest easy knowing that their favorite knife wielding vigilante will be returning for The Defenders. The show’s Twitter account released a short clip this morning with Elektra’s tomb being opened as well as an ominous bowl of blood being poured in.

In the last season of Daredevil, Elektra may have met her demise, but Marvel confirmed early on that the iconic character would somehow be making her way into the miniseries. With Agents of Shield currently exploring a Life Model Decoy arc, it seemed possible that the show would resurrect the character without actually bringing her back to life but this teaser confirms something more mystical will be happening.

For those who are still doubtful that it’s Elektra’s tomb in the new Defenders series, actress Elodie Yung also confirmed it with the snarky response above. Yung has said in multiple interviews that she would happily jump back into the Marvel Universe given the opportunity and now she will definitely get that chance.
Elektra has always been a complicated character, even in the television shows, which definitely begs the question where her allegiances will lie in The Defenders. Portrayed as the devil on the shoulder of Matt Murdock (despite him being the devil of Hell’s Kitchen), she constantly encouraged Daredevil to resort to violent and deadly methods.
Her death was world-shattering for him since Elektra was his first love and despite the toxicity of their relationship, he truly cared for her. If she reappears fighting for the other side, it will definitely complicate things with Matt Murdock, who may hesitate in the action. Especially if her “resurrection,” will heighten her already violent and vengeful personality into a whole other dimension.
The Defenders will air on August 18 of this year and is shaping up to be a promising mini-series with a lot of Marvel characters returning to the action. Elektra packs such a strong punch that whichever side she ends up fighting for has gained an extraordinary adversary. Either way, August can’t come soon enough.
