Netflix is bringing The Witcher TV series to life
Calling all gamers and book lovers, Netflix has officially announced that it will be developing The Witcher series into a TV show.
According to The Verge, it is unclear when the adaptation will be hitting our small screens, but the fantasy series author, Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski, did share his excitement in a press release about the upcoming project:
"“I’m thrilled that Netflix will be doing an adaptation of my stories, staying true to the source material and the themes that I have spent over thirty years writing. I’m excited about our efforts together, as well as the team assembled to shepherd these characters to life.”"
So you’re probably wondering, what The Witcher is, exactly, and why this news is so exciting. Well, The Witcher started out as a series of fantasy books written by Sapkowski about the witcher Geralt of Rivia and “child of destiny,” Ciri. The witchers are monster hunters who have developed supernatural abilities due to starting training at such a young age.
The series is more well-known for its video game adaptations including The Witcher, The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings and the most awarded video game of all time The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
In the press release, executive producers Sean Daniel and Jason Brown commented on the world, story and characters they plan to adapt for the small screen:
