Game of Thrones cast gear up for season 7 promotion

Game of Thrones season 7 is now less than two months away, and the cast is out in full force to get you hyped.

Thank the Mother, the Father, the Maiden and the Crone. Thank the Warrior and the Smith. And yes, even thank the Stranger. We are now only two months away from the return of HBO’s Game of Thrones. The end of our long night is finally in sight, and we can officially start to get excited about our reason for being; Game of Thrones. And in anticipation of the show’s glorious return, cast members are being teamed up in pairs to promote season 7.

Keep in mind, this is not media coverage for cast members other projects where Game of Thrones is inevitably brought up, this one hundred percent, legitimate Game of Thrones press. Consider this the ringing of the bell before the Battle of the Blackwater. The ships are sailing for King’s Landing and it’s showtime.

HBO is sending the cast out in pairs once more, in a repeat of their press blitz from last year. The pairings from last year intimated a connection between the two cast members (Iwan Rheon (Ramsay Bolton) and Michael McElhatton (Roose Bolton) and Maisie Williams (Arya Stark) and Tom Wlaschiha (Jaqen H’ghar) for example). Perhaps there is a similar connection to the pairings this year? The implications make our head spin.

First up, we have a hilarious video of Carice Van Houten (Melisandre) and Liam Cunningham (Davos) courtesy of Van Houten herself. Note the killer shoes.

Other pairings were reported thanks to an now deleted IG post from Daria Bu. Thanks to the intrepid reporting of WinterIsComing, we still have the pairings, however. The post’s deletion should lend credence to the theory that the pairings (minus Sophie Turner) have meaning for those keeping score. They are as follows:

More from Show Snob

  • Sophie Turner
  • Pilou Asbæk (Euron Greyjoy) and Gemma Whelan (Yara Greyjoy)
  • John Bradley (Samwell Tarly) and Rory McCann (the Hound)
  • Isaac Hempstead Wright (Bran Stark) and Aidan Gillen (Littlefinger)
  • Carice van Houten (Melisandre) and Liam Cunningham (Davos)
  • The final pair were partially obstructed,  but the last names Anderson and Portman  are visible, leading us to believe it is Jacob Anderson (Grey Worm) and Daniel Portman (Podrick Payne)

As WiC notes, the pairings do not constitute concrete evidence of a connection during season 7, as Portman did press with Alfie Allen (Theon Greyjoy) for season 6. Those two only shared but two scenes together without any real interaction. Still, some of the other pairings do bring up some interesting possibilities.

Season 7 of Game of Thrones debuts July 16th.
