Kit Harington teases Jon Snow’s mortality in Game of Thrones season 7

Jon Snow might have been elected King in the North at the close of season 6, but don’t expect him to be any safer come season 7 according to Kit Harington.

Season 6 left most Game of Thrones jubilant at House Stark’s fortunes, having retaken Winterfell and deposing Ramsay Bolton. Shortly thereafter Jon Snow was chosen as King in the North and looked pretty safe ensconced in his family seat alongside his wildling allies and the Knights of the Vale.

And yet, kings don’t seem to last very long on Game of Thrones, something that has occurred to star Kit Harington. Speaking to VFX Magazine (and brought to us via GamesRadar), Harington revealed to Jon Snow shouldn’t feel very safe heading into season 7,

"I felt safe in season 6 because I thought it would be bad storytelling to kill me in the [same] season I’d been resurrected! But as for seasons beyond 6, it’s back to business. He’s in mortal danger like anyone else."

Certainly, it would be quite the shock if Jon were to be killed after being resurrected, but when has Game of Thrones ever played by the rules? It would be a swerve of the highest order if Jon were to somehow not make it through season 7, though we’d still count on the King in the North to see season 8. Harington also touched on Jon Snow’s potential motivations and plans now that he’s king.

"I think there is an optimism in 7, definitely at the start. At the end of 6, being crowned King in the North, there’s a small smile on his face. He can start getting stuff done, and start trying to save people and protect people, and do what he’s been trying to do for ages. I mean, it’s maybe not optimism – the world’s fucking ending!"

Winter is indeed here, come season 7, as Jon so poignantly noted at the end of season 6. Jon’s experiences have left him with a unique world view, and preparing for the looming war with the White Walkers will likely be a high priority for Jon.

What level of cooperation Jon can expect from the rest of Westeros remains to be seen, but surely Davos can convince a queen or two to assist Jon (Daenerys anyone?). Either way, fans should not consider Jon completely safe in season 7.
