HBO Releases 12 New Game of Thrones Season 7 Posters

It’s been an exciting first day of summer for Game of Thrones fans because HBO reminded us with a new season seven trailer and twelve new character posters that winter is coming.  

Game of Thrones fans were thrilled this first day of summer when HBO dropped a new trailer today along with twelve new character posters to satisfy eager fans waiting for the new season to drop on July 16, 2017.

Known for having interesting and colorful marketing campaigns, the HBO official Twitter page launched a new social media campaign shortly after the new trailer dropped that is fans tweeted with the hashtag #WinterisHere and an emoji to unlock all twelve character posters.

Similar to last year’s character posters which had all of our favorite main characters (some who were still alive and some that died in previous seasons), this year’s posters also focus in on the faces of our main character with blue overtones symbolizing that winter and death have arrived at Westeros. We also can see in each of the character’s eyes, which have turned blue similar to the blue eyes of the white walkers, that the Night King is reflected in each of their eyes.

So what does this mean for our beloved Game of Thrones characters? We think that it means that this is going to be the season that brings together all of the characters to fight a common enemy- the Night King- and it will end the war of the five kings since the Night King and his army of the undead is the greater threat.

We also find it interesting that this season’s posters feature characters like Theon, Brienne, Tormund and Littlefinger who, although they all play important parts in the show, are minor compared to characters like Cersei, Dany, and Jon who are at the forefront.

This could mean that these characters are going to have some major moments during the new season that will push them to the front alongside with Jon and Dany. It’s also interesting that quite a few characters are missing from the character posters like Davos, whose voice was heavily featured in the first trailer, and Melisandre, who had been a vital character since she was introduced back in season two alongside Stannis.
