7 questions for Game of Thrones season 7
By Corey Smith
2. What is Jon doing north of the Wall?
Does this guy know nothing? Oh, wait. Anyways, judging from the trailers, Jon looks to be quite the world traveler in season 7, making it from Winterfell, to Dragonstone, and then back north of the Wall all in one season. But what exactly would motivate Jon to go north of the Wall when he knows perhaps better than anyone the dangers that lurk there? We have an idea.

After Jon’s encounter with the Night King and his minions at Hardhome, Jon is uniquely dedicated to stopping the forces of the undead. Although the North and the Night’s Watch might prove to be a formidable obstacle for the Night King, after years of conflict the North is depleted in terms of manpower. Jon will need allies, and those allies are going to need convincing of the fantastic and horrible things Jon has seen.
Friend and foe alike will need proof of the looming threat, so it seems to us that Jon will be heading north of the Wall for some sort of physical proof of what’s to come. We’ve seen in the past that wights can be brought by brothers of the Night’s Watch through the Wall, so perhaps Jon is attempting to bring one south as proof of the threat posed by the Night King. We can’t see another reason Jon would head north into such danger, because as we see in the trailer, it doesn’t look to be going well for Jon and crew.
The other option is that the whole sequence takes place south of the Wall, meaning it has fallen and all our heroes are doomed. Let’s hope we’re right about the wight finding expedition and not the second option.
