“This Is Us” promotes seven more cast members for season 2
This Is Us continues expanding its regular cast.
On the heels of this week’s earlier announcement that Jon Huertas and Alexandra Breckenridge were joining This is Us full-time. NBC has promoted seven of the eight child actors to series regulars ahead its second season premiere this fall.
These recent additions most likely mean that This Is Us is gearing up to have more flashbacks with the children’s journey through adolescence.
The kids returning as main cast members are: Parker Bates (young Kevin), Logan Shroyer (teenage Kevin), Mackenzie Hancsicsak (young Kate), Hannah Zeile (teenage Kate), Niles Fitch (teenage Randall), as well as Randall’s two daughters, Faithe Herman (Annie) and Eris Baker (Tess).

A glaring omission is Lonnie Chavis, the actor who played young Randall and easily won over hearts of every viewer because of his touching relationship with Jack. While Chavis will definitely be returning to This Is Us, he has signed on to the Showtime series, White Famous, this fall and was unable to return to the NBC show full-time.
Nevertheless, with all the other kids returning it seems like Kate and Kevin will get a more fleshed out backstory. Randall’s storyline was easily the most moving and well-thought out, the other members of the “Big Three” are in desperate need of character development.
With the addition of these seven to the ever-expanding cast, it’s getting a bit crowded on This Is Us. Considering the show’s defining trait in their freshmen run was bringing viewers to tears, does that spell doom for some of the adult characters?
