Video: Singer Ed Sheeran’s Game of Thrones season 7 cameo revealed
Well, that didn’t take long! Singer/songwriter Ed Sheeran’s cameo on Game of Thrones season 7 happened in the premiere episode. Warning: Spoilers ahoy.
It appears as if Game of Thrones is rocketing through season 7 at a break-neck speed, and we’ve only just finished the premiere episode. Case in point, singer/songwriter Ed Sheeran confirmed some months ago that he would have a cameo in season 7…at some point. What he didn’t allude to, was that his cameo would come at the premiere.
What we also did not know, was that Sheeran’s character would be placed in so perilous a spot. Fresh off her mass-murdering killing spree at the Twins, where she wiped the entire Frey family from existence, Arya happened upon a squad of Lannister soldiers, on her way to — of all places — King’s Landing. Check it out:
Yes, that beautiful voice leading the Lannister soldiers in a song that A Song of Ice and Fire book fans should instantly recognize as “Hands of Gold,” is, in fact, Ed Sheeran.

In the books, the song is written about Tyrion Lannister’s affair with Shae, and performed by a minstrel named Symon Silvertongue — who is later murdered by Tyrion so he won’t sing his song for the wrong people.
Since there was never a Symon Silvertongue on the show, book fans might surmise that Sheeran’s character is named for him, but we haven’t yet heard anything along those lines.
However, I can say I have never feared so greatly for a squad of House Lannister soldiers than I did tonight when Arya Stark shared their camp. If you for one second feared for Arya, then you obviously weren’t watching the same show as the rest of us.
