American Horror Story: Cult episode 6 preview for ‘Mid-Western Assassin’
By Hector Cruz
Kai faces a new adversary in “American Horror Story: Cult” season 7, episode 6, ‘Mid-Western Assassin.’
The October 10th episode of American Horror Story: Cult will see the fallout from the events of this week’s “Holes.” The episode not only revealed the members of the murderous clown cult to viewers, but also to this season’s fear-filled protagonist, Ally, (Sarah Paulson).
What makes things more complicated is that Ally wasn’t told by Meadow (Leslie Grossman) of Dr. Rudy’s (Cheyenne Jackson) presumed involvement, so it’s likely that she’ll once again turn to her therapist for help without knowing that he’s advancing the group’s agenda by using some of his patients’ greatest phobias against them to spread fear throughout the community.

Dr. Rudy is likely the person that Ally is seen talking to on the phone and in her home in the preview clip for episode 6, entitled “Mid-Western Assassin,” where she describes Kai as a “modern-day Charles Manson.”
Luckily, she may soon be getting help from a new character played by American Horror Story regular Mare Winningham, who chastises Kai for “just trying to make these people scared” after he speaks in front of a group of local residents in support of his run for City Council.
“He must be stopped,” she later says, before shooting a gun towards an unknown individual.
The resistance from the two women comes as Kai’s campaign is gaining steam thanks to the release of the footage of the murder of news anchor Bob (Dermot Mulroney) at the hands of the cult. But the aspiring politician also continues to face dissension in the ranks thanks to Ivy’s (Alison Pill) paranoia over recent events.
“We’re all going to jail,” she says nervously, as Winter (Billie Lourd) attempts to comfort her.

What makes Ally’s situation even more precarious is the fact that we don’t yet know if Harrison (Billy Eichner) and Det. Samuels (Colton Haynes) truly conspired to get rid of Meadow, or if it’s all a ruse to lure Ally in by having her grow closer to Dr. Rudy knowing that he’s the only person that she can now turn to. If that’s the case, then Ivy isn’t privy to the plan since Harrison lied to her about Meadow’s whereabouts.
There’s also the possibility that Meadow is truly in danger given that Harrison previously confessed to Kai that he would prefer that she were dead, especially considering his budding romance with Det. Samuels. But it’s strange that they would keep her alive this long, though the same could be said of Ally. We’ll have to wait and see if these or more questions are answered in the next installment if the story continues to unfold at a break-neck pace.

It showed be noted that “Mid-Western Assassin” will reportedly open with a mass shooting. According to EW, the episode’s first few minutes will “find a crowd of people under siege from a shooter while at a political rally.” There are currently no plans to delay the episode in light of this week’s events in Las Vegas.
