AMC has gifted the internet with the opening scene of season 8 of The Walking Dead, and it’s good. It’s really good.

It’s no secret that season 8 of The Walking Dead will deal with the comic run, “All Out War,” which will see Rick’s combined forces of the Alexandria Safe-Zone, Hilltop and the Kingdom, take on Negan and his Saviors.

Season 8 promises to be high-octane and a high body count, and thanks to the official Twitter account of The Walking Dead, we’ve got our first look at three minutes of the opening scene. Check it out:

What’s so surprising here, is the fact that we get a glimpse into the future, as RIck is waiting to address the people surrounding the truck he and King Ezekiel are on.

The song, “Another One Bites The Dust” is playing in the background, a cane is leaning against a door, and a bunch of fresh flowers is seemingly sitting next to a bed. Is this a glimpse into Rick’s future once the war with Negan is done? Can Rick create a utopia, finally, after all this time wandering through the apocalypse?

Fans of The Walking Dead comics certainly know what this sequence refers too, and without getting into spoilers, let’s just say, I really can’t wait to see how this all plays out on the small screen, because showrunner Scott M. Gimple has a history of veering away from the books, when it suits him.
