Marvel’s Inhumans Recap: “Something Inhuman This Way Comes…”
Inhumans takes its first step in the right direction by finally having someone confront the Royal Family over their treatment of the lower class.
“Something Inhuman This Way Comes…” sees Maximus hit his most villainous peak and sets Black Bolt on the path of being a worthy king after an encounter with one of his subjects. The series has had trouble establishing why viewers should be rooting for the Royal Family compared to Maximus but this week begins to give a reason as to why they’re the heroes.
Now that Medusa and Black Bolt have reunited in “Something Inhuman This Way Comes…” they are ready to find the rest of their family. With the forced help of the capture Inhuman guard, the group manages to get a lock on Karnak’s position. However, they are unaware that the poor guy is caught in a battle with drug lords trying to eliminate any loose threads. Karnak does his best work under the pressure even though his powers are still acting up, but Jen gets a bullet in the side during the scuffle. While both make it out of the situation alive, the two lovers must part ways despite Karnak’s sadness to see her go. Luckily, he does get to see the rest of his family, including his hero-of-the-night, Gorgon.
Unfortunately, Auran survives the nasty explosion from last week and begins to compile her army together. She’s holding the doctor and the inhuman who helped Black Bolt hostage in an attempt to lure the king back to her. However, she’s very clearly unhappy with being treated as a servant to Maximus and she will undoubtedly make her own play for the crown. Having her be the overarching villain gives “Something Inhuman This Way Comes…” the ability to let Maximus off the hook for his behavior. At the end of the day, if Auran ends up being the one to pull the trigger, it leaves the possibility of forgiveness between the two brothers open.

On Attilan, Maximus is slowly becoming more unhinged when he discovers his brother is still alive. “Something Inhuman This Way Comes…” sees the younger brother at his most villainous as he barks out orders to everyone around him. The most noticeable comes during his conversation with the only remaining member of the Genetic Council. Whether it’s forcing his “friends” to address him as “my King,” or lashing out in anger when someone suggests an option he doesn’t approve, Maximus slowly begins to transfer from sympathetic to villainous. However, his passionate speech to the statue of his father reveals that the traitorous king truly believes what he’s doing is for the best of everyone.
To keep Medusa at bay, Maximus lies about Crystal’s imprisonment early into “Something Inhuman This Way Comes…”. However, the princess is actually on Hawaii and thriving now that Lockjaw is able to teleport again. Dave tags along, despite his ex-girlfriend thinking he’s crazy, and the two travel throughout the island searching for the Royal Family. While she’s dejected at not being able to find anyone, Dave encourages her to embrace the moment before the two go for a romp in the ocean. It turns out, Crystal has no friends in Attilan because Medusa would never allow it as the overprotective big sister. Considering the Inhuman Guard tells the Queen with her dying breath that her younger sister made it to the island, it will be interesting to see what Medusa will give up to make sure she finds her. Also, what will happen if Crystal doesn’t want to leave?
