The Flash Recap: “Luck Be A Lady”

The Flash continues its hot streak with “Luck Be A Lady,” and says goodbye to a member of the team.

This week expertly juggles high stakes with humor with a new meta-human emerging that gives everyone around her bad luck. With Team Flash running into a myriad of problems, will they be able to stop this new meta before everyone’s luck runs out?

Becky Sharpe hasn’t had an easy life and she’s been dealt a very healthy dose of bad luck. Whether it’s being fired on after a drunk guy grabs her inappropriately, getting cheated on, or being served milk despite reminding the barista she’s lactose intolerant, she’s constantly down in the dumps. However, when the bus miraculously stops for her, Becky ends up getting a new set of powers to finally turn her luck around. Unfortunately her new meta-human status and nickname, “Hazard,” gives anyone surround her a terrible set of bad luck including Barry when he slips on some marbles.

Everyone on Team Flash suffers from the worst luck possible: Joe’s house literally falls apart, Harry get kicked off of Team Quick, Wally gets dumped by Jesse, and all of Iris’s wedding plans are ruined. With everyone reeling from the blows in “Luck Be A Lady,” the team is unsure of how to prevent Hazard from doing any more damage. In the meantime, Joe needs to think about moving after Cecile suggests they buy a new house rather than pour money into a dilapidated one.

Iris is so crestfallen after Barry sees her in the wedding dress and both of their venues are ruled out due to fire and reservation that she wants to give up. Calling Barry to a local church, she tries to rush in after a funeral for a hilarious sequence where she attempts to get the priest to perform a ceremony. Of course, he has an allergic attack due to cinnamon and the wedding is called off.

While everyone else is down in the dumps, Becky keeps thriving throughout “Luck Be A Lady,” to win a lot of money. After robbing a bank, she decides to move on to the casino where she was fired to win multiple jackpots. With her luck increasing, her radius for damage gets higher until the particle accelerator accidentally turns on. Harry convinces Cisco to let the machine go off, and the dark matter blast manages to neutralize Hazard long enough for Barry to arrest her. However, Harry realizes that all of these new meta-humans must be from someone who created Samuroid to force Barry out of the speed force. With him back on this Earth, the portal opened to bring him back would create a busload of new villains to play with. Looks like Team Flash has a new big bad to search for and they’re going to be busy now that Wally has decided to leave.

When Wally shows up at the end of “Luck Be A Lady,” and remarks how nobody even missed him, it was hard to argue otherwise. The truth is, The Flash never figured out what to do with Kid Flash and now that Barry is back, there isn’t really a reason for him to stick around.

This is definitely not the end of Wally’s run on the show but it’s nice to get a break from such a large ensemble so hopefully, next week will continue the funny episodes.
