Showtime is green-lighting the creator of Hamilton to bring the well-loved Kingkiller Chronicle to television!

If you were wondering how your television fantasy itch might get scratched after HBO’s Game of Thrones ends next season, Showtime has some good news for you. The premium cable network is moving forward with its adaptation of author Patrick Rothfuss’ Kingkiller Chronicle, to be developed by the Tony award-winning creator of Hamilton, Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Miranda will serve as both producer and composer for the show, and John Rogers (TNT’s Leverage) will take on the role of showrunner. According to Entertainment Weekly, the show will follow the course and characters from both novels in the planned trilogy.

More from Show Snob

"[The series] will follow a pair of wandering performers on their adventures through the unique and startling world of Temerant, immersing audiences in a universe of unexpected heroes, mystical places, and terrifying dark forces."

The first novel in the Kingkiller Chronicle is titled The Name of the Wind, and follows the story of a musician and adventurer named Kvothe, as he tells his tale to chronicler Devan Lochees. The first season of the show will be an origin story for Kvothe, but it isn’t quite clear how far into the first novel season 1 will go.

For his part, Lin-Manuel Miranda seemed overjoyed to start the project.

"Pat Rothruss’ Kingkiller series is some of the most exciting storytelling I have ever read. I could not be more thrilled to help bring the sights and sounds of his wondrous world of Temerant to the screen."
