The Walking Dead’s ratings continue to drop as episode 802, “The Damned” hits a 5-year low.

Ratings for The Walking Dead have been steadily declining since season 7 and Sunday night’s episode, “The Damned,” hit a new 5-year low. However, as Deadline reports, fans of the show shouldn’t be too worried, as it had to compete with Major League Baseball’s World Series, as well as the NFL on Sunday night.

Among adults ages 18-49, The Walking Dead episode 802, “The Damned,” had a 4.0 rating with a total viewership of 8.92 million. Compare those numbers to Season 2, Episode 6, “JSS,” which pulled in 8.92 million, and you’ve got your new low. But these numbers reflect the live-viewing, people who watch the show the next day on demand or online are a completely different number all together.

With season 8, The Walking Dead’s showrunners seem to have turned up the action to levels not yet seen on the show. And, with All Out War being the theme for season 8, it looks like things won’t be settling down for some time. That depends of course, on whether or not Rick and his combined army of the Alexandria Safe Zone, the Hilltop, and the Kingdom can win the war with Negan and his Saviors.

As MLB finishes the World Series, the only competitor The Walking Dead faces, for total television domination, is the NFL. However, with the NFL playoff’s looming, don’t expect the show to move past football any time soon.

The Walking Dead episode 803, “Monsters,” will continue with the surprise reunion between Morales and Rick, and the fact that the former is working with Negan’s Saviors, and is apparently no longer one of the good guys. Morgan will continue travel down a dark path, and King Ezekiel and Carol will face a tough task. And, Aaron will need to deal with the fact that Eric has been shot.
