Don’t worry folks, HBO is going to be just fine when Game of Thrones ends
If you were, for some reason, concerned that HBO might flounder once Game of Thrones ends, then we’ve got some good news for you.
HBO will be just fine, once the final credits role on Game of Thrones season 8, at least according to the man who would know, HBO chairman/CEO, Richard Plepler. In a recent interview with Bloomberg, Plepler discussed the future of the premium cable network, which includes, you guessed it, more Game of Thrones…at least Game of Thrones spinoffs, among other things.
Calling it “an embarrassment of riches,” the HBO boss lined out a few other, highly interesting titles that should have fans of HBO in general very excited.

"Whether it’s five prequel ideas from different artists on Thrones. Whether it’s Succession, Jesse Armstrong’s fantastic show about the media business. Or the next season of True Detective, the next season of Big Little Lies, whether it’s Lovecraft Country, Misha Green’s extraordinary script, which is a kind of horror genre film set in the 1950s, or Watchmen, Damon Lindelof’s new idea loosely based on the movie but with Damon’s extraordinary take. I’m not concerned about it at all because the enormity of talent that wants to work at HBO is larger today than ever."
The fact that True Detective season 3 is already in pre-production is very exciting, and an unexpected new season of breakout hit Big Little Lies is something fans of that show and the book it was based on should be quite hopeful for. Then, of course, there’s Jordan Peele’s foray into Lovecraftian horror, as well as an adaptation of Watchmen, meaning HBO is extending its reach into the hero genre.

Add Westworld into the mix, and HBO truly does have an embarrassment of riches just waiting for a chance in the spotlight, once the main story of Game of Thrones is relegated to reruns and on-demand binge-watching.
