It’s official, Stranger Things is returning for season 3
Netflix officially announces Stranger Things will return for a third season.
If you were hoping that Netflix would renew its breakout hit Stranger Things for a third season, you aren’t alone. Season 2 of the show was both a critical and popular success and brought in record-smashing ratings.
According to Deadline, the first episode of season 2 brought in a shocking 15.8 million viewers over a three day period, with each subsequent episode drawing in 4 million views a piece. While the renewal for a new season of the show was all but expected, Netflix has made it official via a tweet this morning (December 1).
Taking place in the ever popular and nostalgic 80’s, Stranger Things is created by the genius minds of the Duffer brothers. The show follows a group of junior high friends who use D&D to help solve the mystery of their missing friend.
Along the way, they meet a girl with psychic powers who knows a little something about the shadowy world that mirrors our own, the Upside Down. Both seasons have dealt with an enemy from that world, and fans should expect more of the same with season 3 rolls around.
Stranger Things stars:
- Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven
- Finn Wolfhard as Mike Wheeler
- Gaten Matarazzo as Dustin Henderson
- Caleb McLaughlin as Lucas Sinclair
- Noah Schnapp as Will Byers
- Winona Ryder as Joyce Byers
- David Harbour as Jim Hopper
- Natalia Dyer as Nancy Wheeler
- Joe Keery as Steve Harrington

Season 2 saw Eleven find out about her mother, as well as finding out she had a sister — a girl who was in the same lab as she was as a child and who also has psychic powers.
The Demigorgon was replaced by the Mind Flayer (Shadow Monster) as the main villain, who made Will its “spy” in the real world.
The finale of season 2 left fans wanting more, as the Mind Flayer loomed large,
over the school dance and the town of Hawkins, Indiana, as a whole, making it the most likely candidates for being the big bad in season 3.

With Stranger Things season 2 having its first trailer shown at this year’s Super Bowl, perhaps we can all hope the same event will be repeated for season 3. Keep your fingers crossed.
