‘Iron Fist’ possibly closing in on villain for second season of Netflix series

Marvel Netflix has been almost perfect in their shows outside of one series – Iron Fist.

Despite the problems with Iron Fist, Netflix is moving forward with the second season of that character’s series following his first season and his crossover work in The Defenders. Screenrant has some news on the upcoming season of the character’s series and reports that the villain might be a female this time around.

The problems with Iron Fist

Iron Fist had an uphill battle from the start. There were a lot of protests claiming that Danny Rand should have been Asian in the Marvel Netflix TV series, but people complaining about that had no idea who Iron Fist was or what he represented.

While there is no doubt that there needs to be more inclusive for essential characters of all races in movies and TV shows, it was important that Iron Fist be a white man because of the entire idea of the character. Danny Rand was a rich white kid who almost died and would have if not for the mystical Asians who save him and train him.

This was a story about a spoiled white kid who learned that adopting Eastern culture made him a better person. If Iron Fist had been cast as an Asian actor, it would have held much less promise that it did to show a white kid learning that Americans are not the be-all, end-all in the world.

People who wanted Iron Fist to be Asian just wanted Shang-Chi, Master of Kung Fu instead.

However, the sad thing is that the Iron Fist Marvel Netflix series was the lesser of the efforts (which now includes Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, The Defenders and The Punisher). The storytelling was not as tight compared to the other efforts.

Despite that, Iron Fist is getting another shot, this time with a new showrunner in Raven Metzner (Sleepy Hollow).

What do we know about Season 2 of Iron Fist?

Significant changes are coming for Iron Fist. On top of the new showrunner, which should be an improvement from the start, popular character Misty Knight is coming to the series. Of course, fans got to know her on Luke Cage.

More from Show Snob

One of the problems with the first season of Iron Fist was that Danny was a dick. The Defenders tried to fix that by having the other characters dress him down and make him the brunt of jokes. Misty Knight might be the perfect person to knock Danny down to size more in season two of the series.

The second bit of news comes in the possible villain – a female. Season 1 had a female villain in Madame Gao, who was part of The Hand. She also appeared in The Defenders. She died, but there was another person set up to go up against Danny in his first season in Joy Meachum – someone who wanted revenge.

However, there is a description of a character named Tanya Parker, and Screenrant suggests this character might be Lady Gorgon.

"[TANYA PARKER] (late-20’s, open ethnicity) As a freelance covert operative, Tanya has carried out many high-level missions.  A chameleon adept at playing roles, Tanya inhabits the “part” that best fits the mission. SERIES REGULAR"

That sounds like Lady Gorgon – a character introduced in the pages of The Punisher and a member of The Hand. More information should arrive soon as Iron Fist season two starts production next week.
