The Walking Dead ratings hit season low

Bad news for The Walking Dead season 8, as episode 807 hit a season low.

The Walking Dead has a ratings problem. Live/same day viewers (people who watch the show when it airs)  have been on a steady decline since the season opener. Of course, when looking at on-demand number, the show is doing okay, but not great.

According to Headline Planet, Sunday nights episode, “Time for After,” has hit an all-new season low. The episode drew in 3.28 adults with an 18-49 rating, and averaged 7.47 million views. What’s worse, is the episode was also the lowest rated episode of The Walking Dead since the penultimate episode of season 2. Not good, folks.

However, as Headline Planet notes, The Walking Dead is still the #1 scripted drama on television, on Sunday nights. That dominance covers both broadcast television as well as cable.

More from Show Snob

So what exactly is going on with The Walking Dead that it’s hitting such an abysmal number? Well, for one, the fact that season 8 is suffering from the same problems it had in season 7. Negan is an over the top villain that sucks the light away from all the other characters. Taking an entire first half of the season to just begin to take him down, is entirely too long.

Rick and his group are committing the same blunders that got them in trouble last season. We spent an entire episode this week with Rick doing some kind of kinky paint session with Jadis and the Garbage Pale Kids. That kind of television just doesn’t hold the attention of the viewing public.

In essence, the show is being affected by bad writing and poor directing. As much as I love Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Negan, it’s time to move on from that storyline and strike fear into the hearts of viewers by bringing the terrifying Whisperers. Sadly, that most likely won’t happen until season 9.
