Netflix renews The Punisher for season 2

Great news for fans of The Punisher on Netflix, as the streaming giant has renewed the series for a second season.

Netflix is moving forward with The Punisher, despite news that Disney plans on making its own streaming service in direct competition with other giants in the industry like Netflix and Hulu. Netflix made the announcement via Twitter on Tuesday:

With The Walking Dead alum Jon Bernthal in the titular role of The Punisher, season 1 was a dark and gritty tale of Frank Castle’s need to find the people responsible for the murder of his wife and children. In the process, he uncovers a conspiracy that goes far deeper than the tragic murders of his family.

Bernthal’s portrayal of the anti-hero garnered a 94% fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes from fans of the show, while the less-in-touch critics gave season 1 an overall score of 61%. According to The Hollywood Reporter, “The Punisher is the sixth Marvel series on Netflix,” and joins Daredevil, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage as shows that have been renewed for new seasons.

• Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, the one crossover character from Daredevil and Castle’s connection to his humanity.
