Stephen King talks upcoming Hulu ‘Castle Rock’ series

There is a new series coming to Hulu called Castle Rock.

Fans of Stephen King know that name very well, as some of his most prominent and best novels took place either in Castle Rock or referenced the town. Castle Rock is also the neighboring town of Derry, another King invention.

The town of Castle Rock features in novels as popular as The Dead Zone and Cujo, and while it was supposed to end in Needful Things, it also was referenced as recently as Doctor Sleep and Revival. With that in mind, watch this trailer and see all the references to those stories (as well as references to Derry’s It and The Shawshank Redemption).

As you saw from the trailer, J.J. Abrams (Lost, Star Trek) is running the Hulu Castle Rock series, and it even features Sissy Spacek, who starred in the very first ever Stephen King adaptation Carrie. Bill Skarsgard, who played Pennywise in the new version of It, is also playing a role and was seen in the Shawshank prison scene in the trailer.

Stephen King interviewed with Entertainment Weekly, and with two new stories connected to Castle Rock (Elevation and Gwendy’s Button Box), the journalist asked him what he could tell fans about the Castle Rock Hulu television series.

"I’m as much in the dark as anybody else. I don’t know anything about it so I just hope it turns out really well. It must be going okay. It’s typical J.J. There’s been nothing that I’ve seen in the press, or anything, about it."

Anyone who knows JJ Abrams knows that he is one of the most secretive directors in Hollywood. He has even released movies without anyone knowing they were coming or anything about them in advance (Cloverfield and Super 8) are two examples.

Here is what we know about the Castle Rock Hulu series so far.

Castle Rock Synopsis:

"A psychological-horror series set in the Stephen King multiverse, Castle Rock combines the mythological scale and intimate character storytelling of King’s best-loved works, weaving an epic saga of darkness and light, played out on a few square miles of Maine woodland."
