Game of Thrones season 8 to debut in April 2019, per Maisie Williams

It looks like we may finally know the month in which Game of Thrones season 8 will make its triumphant debut.

When Game of Thrones returns to HBO in 2019, it will be for its eighth and final season — a season consisting of a six-episode slate. Because the show is taking a year off to work on those final six episodes, fans have been jonesing for any news coming from its production.

To that end, star Maise Williams (Arya Stark) may have provided the biggest news so far, by telling Metro News Game of Thrones season 8 would begin airing episodes in April of 2019.

"We wrap in December and we air our first episode in April [2019]. That’s a four-month turnaround for these huge episodes. There’s a lot that goes into the final edit. You would not want to rush this season at all. We owe it to our audience and our fans to really do this final season to the best of our abilities."

It should be noted that Williams’ comments on the show’s return do run contrary to what co-star Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister) recently told Variety. In that interview, Dinklage stated filming for the final season was about halfway finished. However, HBO has yet to confirm either statement, which is standard operating procedure for the premium network.

Back to Maisie Williams and how she would like to see Arya’s story end, the actress wants her character “to find peace.”

"The things that have been driving her through her story have been very bitter and twisted and aggressive. I would love for Arya to find her true self again and let go of this anger and revenge that’s accompanied her on this journey. I’d love for her to be happy."
