Locke & Key adaptation officially ordered to series for Hulu
After the success of Marvel’s Runaways, Hulu is continuing its foray into genre television starring teenage protagonists with Locke & Key.
Locke & Key was unofficially ordered to series by the streaming network today and expected to start filming in March for a 2019 release date. With casting underway, this series could continue the surge of the horror genre on television now that American Horror Story has begun to lose some of its following.
Hulu grabbed Netflix actor, Owen Teague (a true standout on Bloodline) to star as villain Sam Lesser, an extremely disturbed adolescent. He murders his own father before heading over to the titular Locke house where he shoots their dad to death as well as laying down a brutal beating on their mother.

However, it’s doubtful she’ll let the attack go without seeking her own form of justice because Frances O’Connor will be taking on the role of Locke family matriarch Nina. Unfortunately, it’s her decision to move her kids back to their ancestral home in Maine which is the cause of all this violence after the children discover a magical set of keys that a demon is looking for.
O’Connor is no stranger to the horror genre after taking on a supporting role in The Conjuring 2. Joining her behind the scenes are also veterans of the genre, Joe Hill and Andy Muschetti. Hill is a particularly exciting choice as one of the writers because he was the genius behind the Locke & Key comics Muschetti is another natural choice as the director after he helmed the most recent remake of Stephen King’s It. Clearly, he knows his way around capturing kids who are stuck in a Lovecraft nightmare.
Kids from the It remake, Megan Charpentier and Jackson Robert Scott both joined the series as well, most likely playing two out of the three Locke children. Jack Mulhern and Danny Glover are both in the pilot as well but in what capacity is unclear.
