9-1-1 Recap: Point of Origin
By Ariba Bhuvad
Two building fires, Bobby’s past revealed–and a new ship, Abby + Buck
This week’s episode of 9-1-1, aptly named “Point of Origin”, finally revealed Bobby’s secretive past–and boy, was it rough. While Bobby grappled with coming to terms with his past, Abby and Buck came together to find Abby’s mom who went MIA after last week’s episode. The drama was next-level in this week’s episode, which has become the norm for 9-1-1.
The episode began with a traditional Indian-style wedding set to the background of Bollywood music. A celebratory party soon turned into hellish pandemonium when the floor collapsed from under them. Our favorite first responders showed up to save the day–and bridal party.
This moment paved way for Bobby’s story to unfold. As we learned during the episode, Bobby’s family perished in a fire caused by him unintentionally. In a flashback, we see Bobby’s sweet, adorable family. However, a different version of Bobby stood before us–one riddled with drug and alcohol addiction.

Bobby finds solace in an apartment he escapes to within his apartment building, and one that causes the demise of his family along with 145 other people. In a rush, he left a space heater on and returned back to his family apartment. Frustrated and angry with Bobby, his wife kicks him out of the home upon learning he has relapsed.
The moments after showed the fire consuming the apartment building, taking with it the lives of those in the building.
This was an extremely tragic moment to see in Bobby’s life, but also explained the person we see in the present. He blames himself for murdering his family and has since attempted to make amends to walk away from his addiction.
However, the burden of his actions has taken an emotional and physical toll on him. The writers and actors did a wonderful job with this story and it really helped to bring the audience in and connect with a major character. Bravo, 9-1-1!
This episode also gave us a new ship to follow–Abby and Buck! Watching their dynamic this episode was all the feels–and quite sexy. Buck came to Abby’s rescue when she was frantically looking for her mother. Mind you, this was their very first time meeting.
Together the two scoured the town in an attempt to locate Abby’s mother and managed to save lives along the way. All’s well that end’s well because Abby reunited with her mother, courtesy of Athena. However, she chose to walk away from Buck, who she decided to be “phone friends” with. Let’s see if this separation continues in the episodes moving forward.
9-1-1 brought all the feels, tears, and emotions in this episode. Learning about Bobby’s “Point of Origin” was extremely important and will push the narrative in the right direction. If the end of the episode was any indication, Bobby will finally open up to his team about his past.

Watching Abby and Buck was absolutely amazing this episode, and we truly hope that we see them come together as a couple down the road.
