AMC has released the season 8 midseason trailer for The Walking Dead as well as releasing two pieces of key art.

The Walking Dead returns this month, and to help get fans excited for the midseason 8 premiere, AMC has released a trailer and some key art. The trailer, as you might expect is filled with the sadness of having to tell Carl (Chandler Riggs) goodbye, Rick’s emotional response, and Negan being, well, Negan. Check it out:

The trailer opening up with Carl telling Rick that putting away his gun was the right call will be an emotional scene as it plays out on the show, but I’m not certain that’s sound advice. In a world filled with hordes of zombies and a guy wielding a barbed wire baseball bat with a god complex, carrying a loaded gun around should actually be the preferred protocol.

We get a look at Negan finding out about the “escape plan” the folks at Alexandria used, by getting into the sewer tunnels below, and he’s not pleased. An emotional scene with Daryl carrying baby Judith and leading the Alexandrians to the Hilltop, as they all turn to look at someone coming through the gate, is quite poignant. My best guess is it’s Rick carrying Carl’s body.

We get some rapid-fire shots of Ezekiel taking a stand, while Negan uses a nail gun to put someone in a coffin. Has to be one of his lieutenants.  We also see an uncharacteristically crying Jadis (leader of the Garbage Pale Kids), and now I’m wondering what made that weird robot cry.

Carol and Morgan obviously attempt to free King Ezekiel from the now Savior controlled Sanctuary. Father Gabriel isn’t looking so swell, and Rick and Negan play with walkie-talkies.

Here’s a piece of key art for the upcoming midseason 8:

The last stand is going to be Rick and Negan just pummeling each other into bloody messes, isn’t it?
