9-1-1 celebrates Valentine’s day with its most intense, jaw-dropping episode yet.

This week’s 9-1-1 takes out all the stops with its dramatic Valentine’s Day centered episode. “Heartbreaker” is the strongest episode in the series by far and includes murder, love, and near-death experiences.

The episode opens with Frank Sinatra’s “Fly Me To The Moon” as a couple is seen flying through the LA skies in a commuter airplane. In an effort to spring a surprise proposal on his girlfriend, the man decides to fake a plane emergency. Due to side effects of her current medication, the woman passes out from being overwhelmed–aka Broken Heart Syndrome (mimics the symptoms of a heart attack).

This dramatic beginning is just one of the crazy things to take place during the episode. With Valentine’s Day around the corner, Abby and Buck try to figure out the status of their relationship. She questions where they stand as a couple and decides to attend Chimney’s “Welcome Back” party at the station per Buck’s request. This is an adorable moment in the episode as the crew gives Buck a hard time about Abby and persuades him to take her out on the romantic holiday.

And this is the moment the episode channels the crazy. The scene shifts to a couple having an awkward  Valentine’s Day dinner. The girl, Molera, appears to be completely into the holiday while the guy could not care less. His lack of effort in buying her gifts sets her off–as he reveals that he has another date to get to.

A 9-1-1 call is placed after the couple starts bickering, a call that Athena answers. When she arrives at the home, Molera plays it off by saying she got into a fight with her boyfriend. While everything appears to be okay, from the audience perspective, something is insanely off about Molera. This suspicion is confirmed when Molera brutally murders the guy after Athena leaves the house. Yikes.

Back at the station, Bobby helps Buck get ready for his date with Abby, who he promises not to sleep with right away. Abby also gets ready for the big night and we finally get to see the dolled-up version of Connie Britton we all love and adore. For a date that starts so awkwardly perfect, it sure does not end that way. A moment of laughter transforms into panic when Buck starts choking on a piece of bread and passes out after his airway is completely blocked. Abby comes to the rescue and performs an emergency tracheotomy on the spot, saving Buck’s life. Talk about a memorable first date, right?

Chimney and Bobby handle the responsibilities for the night as they answer a very bizarre call from a man with a broken back. Upon arriving at the house, they are told everything is fine and no one called 9-1-1. This scene results in a hilarious plot twist when we learn that the man that called was the husband, and the man who answered the door is the woman’s boyfriend. The husband and the wife are separated but had been sneaking around, unbeknownst to the boyfriend. The husband had jumped from the balcony when the boyfriend showed up to surprise the woman.

The insanity continues when Athena is called to the scene of a car pile-up and has to get a med tech carrying an organ to the hospital ASAP.

Initiate crazy car scene. After successfully dropping the tech off, she receives a call to go back to Molera’s house. She enters the house to find Molera has set up candles everywhere and has bought chocolate and wine for them. While in the bathroom, Athena realizes Molera is taking all kinds of antipsychotic medication and spots blood in the bathtub. She also discover’s the boyfriend’s body which has been superglued back together by Molera (WTF!).

Unluckily for Athena, Molera catches and ties her up. However, Athena is not Molera’s only hostage in the house–she has also kidnapped the boyfriend’s other date and locked her in the basement. Athena’s kung-fu moves save her life as she manages to break free and attack Molera–but not before the boyfriend’s third date shows up guns a blazing.
