The Punisher adds Supergirl’s Floriana Lima for season two
Looks like Floriana Lima is officially making the jump from DC Comics to Marvel with the news breaking today that she will be joining the cast of The Punisher as a series regular.
She’s not the only casting announcement today, as Criminal Minds‘ Josh Stewart and Scream‘s Giorgia Whigham have both been added to the Netflix series as well.
While it was hinted at earlier this year that The Punisher might be adapting Garth Ennis’ “The Slavers” arc, these new additions could mean the show is going in a different direction. Lima’s character is Krista Dumont, who is “a smart, compassionate, and driven psychotherapist for military veterans,” who will most likely end up being an ally of Frank Castle.

However, it’s less clear with Josh Stewart. He is playing John Pilgrim, someone described as a man whose calm exterior belies a ruthless interior. “Despite having left behind a life of violence, circumstances will force him to use his old skills and bring him into Frank’s world.” This leaves the door open for him to be on either side of a fight.
Finally, Whigham’s new character could fit into “The Slavers” storyline since she is playing a “street smart young woman with a mysterious path.”
The Punisher executive producer, Jeph Loeb, was quick to share his excitement over the new additions with his statement:
"“Josh, Floriana and Giorgia are all remarkable talents and we can’t wait for the audience to see what we have in store for them in the second season of Marvel’s The Punisher.”"
Showrunner, Steve Lightfoot shared an equal enthusiasm for the new cast members with his own announcement:
"“We are incredibly excited to have Josh, Floriana and Giorgia joining the cast of Marvel’s The Punisher and seeing them bring their talents to the next chapter in the Frank Castle story.”"
While there hasn’t been any news on a potential premiere date for the Netflix series, the show is expected to start production again soon. Once it begins filming, there should be more information about how these new characters will fit into the world.

Of course, this casting announcement will finally give a definitive answer to Supergirl fans about the return of Lima’s fan-favorite character, Maggie Sawyer. It’s bittersweet for fans to officially know she won’t be coming back, there’s no doubt that the second season of The Punisher will undoubtedly utilize her talents better than The CW series did.
